[Garrus taps the hilt of a pistol hanging from his waist with a clawed finger, the thulium laced carapace sounding off a muffled clack.]
See this? This is a tool that can be used for a bunch of different things. You can use it to defend someone--yourself included--or to cause some serious, uncalled for damage.
Learning how to use it doesn't just come at a whim. There's always a reason behind it. Always.

It was scary. Scary to know that if his powers weren't there? He was completely defenceless. His fingers twitch a bit, now gripping a little more tighter on the cleaning equipment he was using for this pistol. It's fine. Just don't give him the full answer unless absolutely necessary, he thinks. Maybe he'd accept some bullshit about being a hero for justice or something. Half the people here seemed to spout that nonsense a lot.
But, Garrus was different. He could see through a lot of that phony bullshit, especially if it was Glitch who said it. He knows he hasn't given off much of what you'd call an aura of optimism and innocence. So how to answer?
Finally, he exhales, rolling his shoulders to look at the pistol's piece to clean it. At the very least he wouldn't have to look at Garrus in the eye when he dropped a half truth; ]
Maybe I just want to know other ways to fight. Nothing wrong with that is there? [ Probably not. Maybe. ]

[Even if Glitch averts his eyes, Garrus' hawkish gaze continues to burrow through him, piercing through years and years of layers that the kid has built up to protect himself. It isn't the first time he's seen this kind of thing, and, sadly, he's pretty sure it won't be the last. That's what got Garrus the most during times of war and strife--the kids that got wrapped up in the mess that the adults caused but still couldn't handle.]
But there's a respect that has to come with it.

There's a small shrug he gives as he finishes off cleaning the last part of the gun, not beginning to put it back together. His eyes still remain on the gun as he puts the pieces together and answers;]
It's just a thing. There's no need to get all sentimental about it.

[But Garrus lets that part slide. What he doesn't let slide, however, is Glitch's flippancy about weapons and guns in general. A society that understands the concepts and consequences of war instills a healthy respect for what could happen in its people, and Garrus, as someone who's been on the front lines on some of the most horrific battlegrounds the galaxy has ever seen, has had plenty of time and reason to keep up that healthy respect.]
[It's with that in mind that he places a clawed hand on the gun and bends his head so his gaze catches Glitch's.]
Wanna run that one by me again?

It's Garrus' stern and disappointed uncle look. Glitch falters a bit under the gaze, his usual expression of constant seriousness softens a bit, becoming more pouty as he shrinks away. His eyes look down and away mumbling a bit in agitation at the sheer closeness. Still, he grumbles back a; ]
Sorry.
[ But is quick to add; ]
Can we ...can we just get back to the lesson? [ because this guilt thing is not his thing and it's uncomfortable. Please stop. ]

[Stern and disappointed uncle is right, if Garrus' tone is anything to go by. He taps a single finger on the hilt of the gun and makes sure he doesn't break eye contact.]
Not until you actually get why I'm just a little upset right now.
